The announcement of Germany's new feed-in-tariff (FIT) cuts has stopped the price increases of solar products that began in February. Despite the fact that the Germany government has pushed back the effective date to April, the solar prices from polysilicon to solar cells in Greater China have began to decline, said Chihheng Liang, Digitimes Research analyst. The pessimistic view of the market due to Germany FIT cuts has caused spot price of polysilicon to fall by US$2.50/kg. Some polysilicon spot prices in China has reached as low as US$25/kg, added Liang. As polysilicon spot price decreases, solar wafer price in China has been moving downward as well. The price falls have been in the range of US$0.02-0.03/unit. Taiwan-based high efficiency polysilicon wafers continue to be popular. Price of such products has remained above US$1.30/unit, flat compared to February prices, according to Liang. Liang indicated that solar cell price suffered a decline of US$0.01/W. Taiwan-based high efficiency solar cells have been quoted around US$0.50/W while China-based products have been quoted around US$0.48-0.49/W. Digitimes Research discovered that demand from the US market has been accounting for 50% in first-quarter 2012 while Germany has been accounting for 20-30%. | Weekly price of solar products in Greater China, March 5-9 | | | Type | Unit | Avg Price | Change | | Polysilicon | Chunk | US$/kg | 27 | -2.50 | | Wafer | 125 Mono | US$/pc | 1.00 | -0.02 | | 156 Mono | US$/pc | 1.57 | -0.03 | | 156 Multi | US$/pc | 1.19 | -0.02 | | Cell | 125 Mono | US$/watt | 0.55 | -0.01 | | 156 Mono | US$/watt | 0.59 | -0.01 | | 156 Multi | US$/watt | 0.49 | -0.01 | | Module | | EUR/watt | 0.64 | No change | Source: Digitimes Research, March 2012
