Taiwan-based makers shipped 16.01 million handsets in the third quarter of 2012, decreasing 18.7% on quarter and 34.8% on year, according to Digitimes Research. Of the shipments (including own-brand models), 14.30 million were smartphones, slipping by 13.3% on quarter and by 6.4% on year, while WCDMA, CDMA and GSM models accounted for 68.8%, 24.7% and 6.6% respectively. Smartphone vendor HTC shipped 7.4 million units in the third quarter, followed by Chi Mei Communication Systems with 3.5 million units, Arima Communications with 2.2 million units, Compal Communications with 1.8 million units and Inventec Appliances with 800,000 units.
