Taiwan WiMAX device shipments to decrease in 2012
Irene Chen, Taipei; Adam Hwang, DIGITIMES [Thursday 12 January 2012]
Taiwan-based makers of WiMAX terminal devices, including Quanta Computer, Accton Wireless Broadband, Unizyx Holding and Prime Electronics & Satellitics, are expected to see their shipments decrease in 2012, according to industry sources. This is because there are no new WiMAX operators around the world and some of the existing WiMAX operators are shifting to LTE, the sources said, adding developers of WiMAX chips have not offered new solutions since the end of 2010. Gemtek Technology, however, is the only exception, for the company expects its shipments of WiMAX terminal devices to increase from 1.2 million units in 2011 to 1.5 million units in 2012, the sources said.
