Taiwan-based notebook cooling modules makers are expanding their business as the notebook cooling modules market is becoming mature.
As cooling module makers are all raising their in-house manufacturing of heat-pipes and have similar capacity levels, their competition is already turning from capacity to price.
Cooler module maker Asia Vital Components (AVC) is moving towards the networking equipment cooling product market, while Forcecon Technology, a supplier for Compal Electronics, is exploring the automobile cooling and LED lighting markets.
AVC's networking equipment cooling product business currently contributes more than 10% of the company's revenues and the related solutions are capable of generating a gross margin of 30%, stronger than that from PC cooling products.
AVC is also working aggressive in the LED lighting business, but current revenue contributions are rather low compared to the company's other product lines.
Forcecon's automobile cooling products are expected to start mass shipments in the fourth quarter of 2010 and the company expects to complete its development of cooling modules for LED-based automobile headlights in 2011.
Forcecon also has a chance to land a government project for LED light bulbs and is currently cooperating with solar cell makers on developing cooling modules for solar panels.
