Optical lens kit maker Largan Precision has announced net profits of NT$961 million (US$30.14 million) for second-quarter 2010, up 30% sequentially, with an EPS of NT$7.17 for the quarter.
Largan recorded consolidated revenues of NT$4.990 billion (US$152 million), gross margin of 47.81%, net profit of NT$1.696 billion, and net EPS of NT$12.65 for the first half of 2010.
Shipments of 5-megapixel lens kits for Apple's iPhone 4 will drive a sequential increases in consolidated revenues for the third quarter, but overall gross margin will drop slightly due to increased procurement of voice coil motors (VCMs), an expensive key component of lens kits, company chairman Tony Chen pointed out.
In order to reduce production costs, Largan is setting up VCM production lines in-house, with production to begin at the end of 2011, Chen indicated.
