Taiwan market: Windows Live Messenger blocking users from connecting

Joseph Tsai, DIGITIMES, Taipei 1

Several consumers in Taiwan, on a Chinese-language-based online discussion forum, claim that they have seen issues regarding the connection of their Windows Live Messenger as they are unable to log in even with correct username and password.

They said after they entered the username and password, the program will simply give them an error message, stating that they have the wrong username and password as well as an error code 80048823.

When contacting the company's technical support through phone, Microsoft provides a voice message asking consumers to refer to the company's webpage for its standard procedure to solve the issue, or they can search the company's technical support forum for further assistance; however, the solutions the company provides are unable to unlock the blocking accounts the users claimed.

Some consumers claimed that they have been blocked from connection for three days and the company's customer service personnel are unable to provide any working solution.

However, a few consumers have noted that they are already able to reconnect to the network, but most of the others are still seeing the issue troubling them.

Commenting on the issue, Microsoft responded that the company is currently working aggressively to assist consumers to resume their account. The company pointed out that Windows Live Messenger has a tight security system, and the problem is triggered if users enter the wrong password too many times, and this is a measure that the company has taken to protect users' data. Microsoft also pointed out that several of the account blockings are caused by aggressive hacking activities recently.

Microsoft also pointed out that if users forget the information they registered for the account, they can simply visit its support page (Chinese-language) and leave their current personal data to receive immediate assistance, or they can call its customer services for help as well.
