NOR chip vendor Spansion will increase the proportion of its outsourcing to Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) to avoid potential supply chain disruptions, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report.

Wuhan Xinxin Semiconductor Manufacturing, SMIC's 12-inch joint venture fab with the Wuhan municipal government, has taken over a portion of the orders that Spansion had placed with Texas Instruments' (TI) facility in Aizu-Wakamatsu, Japan, the report said, without citing its sources.

TI has revealed that recovery at its manufacturing sites in Japan, which were damaged by the recent earthquake, is progressing well. Its fab in Aizu has resumed initial production, and is on track for full production by mid-April or earlier, according to a company statement issued on March 29.
