Notebook PCB maker Global Brands Manufacture (GBM) will start volume production at its new plant in Chongqing, China in July-August 2012, with plans to ramp up the monthly capacity of the plant to 600,000 square feet of PCBs by the end of the year, according to company president Peter Chu.

GBM's capex for 2012 is expected to reach NT$2 billion (US$66.7 million) compared to over NT$1 billion in 2011, said Chu, noting that total investments in the Chongqing plant alone will reach NT$1.4-1.5 billion this year.

Its affiliate, HannStar Board, also plans to set up a new plant in Chongqing with an initial investment of US$6 million.

Meanwhile, handset PCB maker Compeq Manufacturing has also decided to invest US$45 million to establish production facilities for HDI boards in Chongqing, according to a company filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE).
