China-based China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT) has surpassed BOE in TV panel shipments, and is now one of the three largest providers of LCD TV panels in China, surpassing AU Optronics (AUO) and Samsung Electronics, according to Digitimes Research.

The main reason for CSOT's fast progress is because most of the company's engineers and management team used to work at Taiwan-based panel companies such as AUO and CMI, and are now helping CSOT develop its technology and resource management as well as improve production yield rates.

CSOT is also growing since it is not subjected to tariffs which are imposed on foreign-based panel makers but will most likely start to aim its shipments at foreign makers as Hefei Xinsheng Optoelectronics is constructing an 8.5G production line that is set to begin mass production in the first quarter of 2014.
