Digitimes Research: Taiwan 4Q12 digital camera shipments hit 15-quarter low

Taiwan-based Ability Enterprise, Altek, Foxconn Electronics and Asia Optical shipped 7.588 million digital cameras in total during the fourth quarter of 2012, hitting the lowest quarterly level since the second quarter of 2009, according to Digitimes Research.

Of the shipments, 57.6% were 16-megapixel CCD models, 18.1% 16-megapixel CMOS models and 17.8% 14-megapixel CCD models, Digitimes Research said.

Ability accounted for 59.33% of the shipments, Altek 23.33%, Foxconn 13.38% and Asia Optical 3.97%.

Nikon was the largest client accounting for 43.49% of the shipments, followed by Fujifilm with 23.13%, Olympus 8.55%, Samsung Electronics 6.98%, Casio 3.29%, Sony 3.14%, Panasonic 2.86% and Pentax 1.21%.
