The supply chain in Asia has seen a major shift from concentration in China to regionalization in a "China+n" approach. Asia as a whole will be serving as a global production hub, as well as a major market for vendors from around the world.

Keeping abreast of such a massive change to the supply chain landscape, DIGITIMES Asia has completed its first Asia Supply Chain 100 research, coming up with insights into the tech industries, their structural differences and development potential of various countries in Asia.

ASC100 MarketCap

The global supply chain has evolved again in 2021, as the US, the EU, and countries in Asia increased investments in building up local supply chains to enhance their resilience during uncertain times and secure their competitiveness.

DIGITIMES takes the pulse of information technology and automotive supply chain manufacturers by watching their performance in the capital market and get findings and insights.

Rank
Market capitalization reflects the capital market's view of a company's prospect. For a whole industry, DIGITIMES believes it will also suggest the direction that the electronics and automotive industry is evolving.

Industry
Comparison
Resilient supply chain has become a priority for governments as chip crunch and the subsequent production disruption has taken a toll economically and politically, which is why DIGITIMES ASC 100 market capitalization ranking tries to give a snapshot and keep track of the trend.
Country
Comparison
Taking a look at waves of challenges the COVID-19 pandemic has imposed on Asian countries over the past years, we found that how well individual countries do to secure production amid the pandemic affect the market confidence on their ICT and automotive manufacturers, which was often reflected on company share prices.
Methodology

Asia Supply Chain Market Cap 100 is the research of Asia-based (Hong Kong counts as China) listed companies in the electronic, information & communication technology, and automotive industries. The companies are ranked based on year end market cap.

Asia

The surveyed companies belong to major Asian economies, including China, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan in East Asia; Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam in Southeast Asia; and India in South Asia.

Supply Chain

Focusing on the companies that supply electronic, information, and communication technology, and automotive products, under the categories of Semiconductor, Electronic Components, Electrical Component, Machinery, Tech Products and Equipment, Consumer Electronics, Automotive Manufacturing, and Automotive Components.

Companies

Companies with publicly issued and listed stocks that disclose financial information on time in accordance with laws and regulations.

Market Cap

Market Cap in the survey defines companies' year end market cap. Parent companies and subsidiaries are ranked separately if both are listed companies.

Top 100

The survey selects and ranks the top 100 companies in terms of market cap, naming them the "Asia Supply Chain 100 Market Cap."

P/E Ratio

The P/E Ratio in the table of Rank is defined as following:
P/E Ratio: stock price / EPS (trailing 4 quarters, 2 semi-years or a full year)

P/S Ratio

The P/S Ratio in the table of Rank is defined as following:
P/S Ratio: market cap / Sales (trailing 4 quarters, 2 semi-years or a full year)

ASC100

Asia supply chains had experienced challenges from the pandemic, logistics and geopolitical tensions. DIGITIMES compiled the financial data of supply chain companies in Asia to find the companies that have maintained stable growth and even survived the challenges brought by the "black swans".

The report will be updated in May annually.

Ranks
Revenue
Revenue reflects the current position of supply chain operators in the industry and is the first thing people look at when evaluating a company. DIGITIMES compiled the 2020 ranking of each company based on revenue in US dollars. The top 100 supply chain companies in Asia brought in a total of US$3.11 trillion in 2020, with Japanese and Chinese companies in fierce competition. This is enough to demonstrate the legacy of supply chain changes in Asia, which has become the world’s industrial production base over the past 5 decades.

Profit
Pofit after tax is the final result of a company’s earnings. In the DIGITIMES Asia Supply Chain 100 list, Samsung Electronic, Toyota Motor, and TSMC are the top three in pofit respectively, with SK Hynix rising through the ranks. Although the top 100 companies selected by DIGITIMES are all leaders in the field of information and communication supply chain, some companies still suffered losses in 2020.

Market Cap
A company's revenue and pofit reflect its past operating results, while the difference between its market cap and operating results reflects its development potential. The DIGITIMES Asia Supply Chain 100 research shows that the fierce competition in advanced semiconductor manufacturing is also present in the competition for the highest market cap. At the same time, already volatile market cap have become even more unpredictable due to the US-China trade war.

Looking at the different industries of the supply chain companies, Automotive Manufacturing companies and ICT Products and Equipment companies account for about half of the total revenue and profit of the top 100 Asian supply chain companies, reflecting the key role that the automotive and computer industries have long played in Asian supply chains. On the other hand, although only 6 semiconductor companies made the top 100 list, they account for 20% of the total profit and market cap, reflecting the pervasiveness of semiconductor chips in today’s world.

Comparison
The generational changes in supply chains are evident in the DIGITIMES Asia Supply Chain 100 list. Japanese companies still rank first in various aspects, with China close behind. Taiwan and South Korea, both among the "Four Asian Dragons," are also forces to be reckoned with. At the same time, Southeast Asian and South Asian countries have seized upon the trend of shifting supply chains and stand the chance to gain a dominant position in short-chain and localization.
South / Southeast
Asian Ranking
As Asian supply chains gravitate towards a China+n landscape, regional powerhouses in South Asia and Southeast Asia with a strong foundation in the automotive, electronic, and electrical industries are raring to go. Though most of these companies have yet to make it on the Asia Supply Chain 100 list, this once-in-decades shift in the field of supply chains might give them the chance to narrow the gap between them and international companies.

Supply Chain

Focusing on companies that supply electronic, information, and communication technology products, including Semiconductor, Electronic Components, Machinery, Tech Products and Equipment, Consumer Electronics, Automotive Manufacturing, and Automotive Components and Equipment.

Companies

Companies with publicly issued and listed stocks that disclose financial information on time in accordance with laws and regulations.

Revenue

Includes the consolidated revenue of subsidiaries. Parent companies and subsidiaries are ranked separately if both are listed companies.

100

Based on information published before May 1, 2021, the survey selects and ranks the top 100 companies in terms of revenue in 2020, naming them the "Asia Supply Chain 100." DIGITIMES then ranks these top 100 companies based on revenue, profit (rate), market cap, revenue growth rate, market cap growth rate, and other financial information.

ASC IC50

Digital transformation has increased the silicon content of various products and services, making the ubiquitous semiconductors a focus of geopolitical competitions. Having been an active observer at the center of semiconductor production and trade in Asia for decades, DIGITIMES believes monitoring main players in the entire supply chain will enable our readers to get a grasp of bigger technology trends.

We plan to launch this report in June 2022.

ASC EV50

The automotive industry is currently facing a paradigm shift, giving Asia where the electronic industry is densely located a great opportunity to play an even more important role than before. DIGITIMES consolidated a EV 50 list as a window to monitor the important transformation process of the auto industry in Asia.

We plan to launch this report in July 2022.
