Industrial policy in Thailand, for example, favors the growth of foreign EV battery producers, whereas the Vietnamese government brings about a range of benefits to the local EV battery manufacturers. Unlike both countries, Singapore strengthens its position as a vibrant innovation cluster by embracing both local and foreign companies.

A recent DIGITIMES Asia report titled, "2022 EV battery value chain outlook in Asia" offers a holistic view of the current situation of Singapore's EV battery industry. Below is the summary of the report.

As an innovation ecosystem becomes nimbler and more dynamic, leaders are looking to create diverse landscapes that encourage startups, partnerships with corporates, or simply look for support from other stakeholders. In order for this idea to work, the ecosystem will need interconnected partnerships among the various stakeholders.

Singapore's innovation landscape best exemplifies the innovation ecosystem concept, including its EV battery supply chain. The following are the 4 key factors that contribute to shaping a unified EV battery innovation ecosystem in Singapore: A collaborative culture, empowered talent pools, a supportive funding environment, and a comprehensive EV policy.

Taking the Singapore Battery Consortium as an example, it brings together researchers, companies, and the public sector in translating battery-related research into novel products that serve market needs. The Consortium is hosted at A*STAR's IMRE and funded by the NRF, with $2 million allocated over 3 years.
