Taiwan-based notebook makers Quanta Computer, Compal Electronics, Wistron and Inventec are considering establishing a common component supply chain platform, according to industry sources.
Currently, Quanta uses a self-developed platform for supply chain management, whereas Compal, Inventec and Wistron use eASP, Trade-Van and E2Open, respectively. Upstream component makers need to go through these platforms first to be able to enter the supply chains of the makers, the sources indicated.
The move will help lower purchasing costs for the makers and boost their overall competitiveness against South Korea- and China-based players, the sources noted.
Although the vendors have expressed their willingness to join the plan, execution may still face difficulties in regards to coordination, the sources added.
