United Microelectronics (UMC) has reported revenues climbed to a record high of NT$15.06 billion (US$504.6 million) in April 2020, while Vanguard International Semiconductor's (VIS) revenue slid to a three-month low of NT$2.585 billion.
UMC's April revenues represented a 3.4% sequential increase and a 24.6% surge compared to April 2019. The company credited its positive performance to strong demand for computer peripherals and consumer electronics products.
UMC disclosed its cumulative 2020 revenues through April climbed 28.4% from a year earlier to NT$57.33 billion.
UMC expects both its wafer shipments and ASPs to grow 1-2% sequentially in the second quarter, with revenues reaching a record high for the second consecutive quarter.
Specialty IC foundry VIS' revenues for April 2020 was 12.6% above the year-ago level despite a 10.1% decline compared to the previous month. Revenues for the first four months of this year totaled NT$10.43 billion, up 13.3% from the same period in 2019.
VIS estimated previously a 2-7% sequential increase in second-quarter revenues, citing robust demand for power management ICs and large-size panel driver chips.
