Digitimes Research: Taiwan shipments of LCD monitors increase 3.2% to 22.32 million in 3Q14

Betty Shyu, DIGITIMES Research, Taipei

Taiwan makers' shipments of LCD monitors increased 3.2% on quarter to 22.32 million in the third quarter of 2014, which also represented a 7.4% on-year decline.

The on-year decline is the steepest drop for Taiwan makers over the last five years, produced mainly from increased demand for tablets.

During the third quarter, 58% of products shipped were sized 20-inch and above as vendors pushed to release larger sizes. Higher-end products such as Ultra HD were also a focal point for vendors.

In terms of performance, TPV and Qisda maintained the healthiest shipments compared with other makers.

Looking to the fourth quarter of the year, the makers can expect to see shipments rise 3.1% on quarter but drop 6% on year. The amount will bring total shipments to 87.08 million in 2014, down 4.6% on year to bring the makers' global proportion up 0.2pp to 63.6%, said Digitimes Research.

Digitimes Research added it expects that global LCD monitor shipments will decline another 2-3% in 2015.
