Sunplus Innovation Technology, an image signal processor (ISP) and human interface device (HID) controller chip developer, is expected to enjoy strong sales growth in the second half of 2021, thanks to increasing supply from its foundry partners.

Sunplus Innovation had insufficient support from wafer foundries and backend houses in the first half of 2021, but will see its chip supply increase 20% in the second half following keen negotiations with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) and Vanguard International Semiconductor (VIS), industry sources said.

In 2020, Sunplus Innovation supplied webcam chips to over 40% of non-Apple notebooks worldwide and enjoyed over 70% on-year growth in ISP chip sales.

The company is now releasing IPS chips supporting 5-megapixel and over 8-megapixel resolutions as well as functionalities including TNR 3D noise cancelation, lower power consumption and AI edge computing.

The company's chips have also been used for facial and environmental recognition and background image processing. The company will be listed on Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) in the second half of 2021.
