LED packaging service provider Edison Opto will expand production capacity for LED lighting modules by 30% and that for LED automotive lighting modules by setting up its second production line in Taiwan in the fourth quarter of 2021, with the additional capacity to come into operation as soon as the end of the second quarter of 2022, according to the company.

The expansion at the factory in Taiwan is mainly for shipments to the North American market to cope with US-China trade disputes, while the two factories in China are mainly for supply for China-based clients, Edison said.

Edison has obtained orders for LED automotive lighting modules with shipments scheduled for May-June 2022, with the corresponding sales revenues in 2022 expected to increase a great deal on year, Edison noted.

Edison posted consolidated revenues of NT$485.4 million (US$17.4 million), gross margin of 22.50%, operating profit of NT$24.9 million, net profit of NT$24.5 million, and net EPS of NT$0.20 for the third quarter of 2021.

Among product lines, LED devices accounted for 26% of the consolidated revenues, LED lighting modules for 46%, finished LED products for 17%, optical data-transfer components for 11%. Of the third-quarter 2021 sales revenues from LED lighting modules, general lighting took up 33%, and automotive lighting 67%.

In particular, the revenue proportion for LED automotive lighting modules dropped from 19% in the second quarter of 2021 to 15% in the third one, and this was because the short supply of semiconductor components affected production and production at the factory in eastern China was temporarily stopped in July due to lockdown against coronavirus pandemic.

Edison recorded consolidated revenues of NT$1.606 billion, gross margin of 24.56%, operating profit of NT$117.6 million, net profit of NT$94.6 million, and net EPS of NT$0.80 for the first three quarters of 2021.

Edison has reported consolidated revenues of NT$157.0 million for October, decreasing 11.61% on month but increasing 10.80% on year, and those of NT$1.763 billion for January-October, growing 10.13% on year.

LED automotive lighting module maker Excellence Optoelectronics has released a financial report for the third quarter of 2021: Consolidated revenues of NT$913.7 million, gross margin of 17.41%, operating loss of NT$4.1 million, and a net loss of NT$6.2 million. For January-September 2021, the company posted consolidated revenues of NT$2.743 billion, gross margin of 19.57%, operating profit of NT$52.5 million, and net profit of NT$12.0 million.
