Jih Lin revenue ratio for automotive leadframes to exceed 50% by 2023

Taiwan-based leadframe maker Jih Lin Technology expects sales of its car-use offerings to grow steadily for a revenue contribution ratio of over 50% by 2023 thanks to strong demand for customized automotive leadframes from international IDMs, according to company chairman SY Tsai.

Tsai said Jih Lin has been highly devoted to supplying customized leadframes for processing silicon-based IGBT modules or SiC power modules by major IDMs in Europe, the US and Japan, who have all presented clear order visibility for 2022-2023, promising stable growth momentum for the company's shipments of automotive leadframes.

Tsai disclosed Jih Lin is now the world's second largest supplier of automotive power module leadframes, maintaining a diversity of both production footholds and major customers. He noted the company's shipments and revenues will grow quarter by quarter in 2022 on strong order placements from clients. He added that it will take two years to develop customized leadframes in cooperation with clients and at least another 3-4 months to fulfill orders after they are placed, both translating into a high entry threshold for competitors.

Jih Lin now has around 50 new development projects under way, and another 70-80 projects already entering initial or volume production, according to industry sources. The company is expected to start volume production of customized leadframes in the third quarter of 2022 to fulfill orders from IDMs in the SiC power module supply chain for Tesla, the sources continued.

Its spokesman NY Wu also noted Jih Lin is set to expand leadframe capacity by 10-20% in 2022, with its revenues for the year estimated to register a double-digit growth. The company has also raised its second-quarter quotes to reflect ever-rising copper prices, and its market share for power module leadframes used in automotive, industrial and smart inverter home appliance applications has risen to 10%, compared to 5% for IC leadframes, Wu added.
