German automaker BMW is adopting Here Real-Time Traffic by Here Technologies to support its connected navigation services (CNS) and predictive routing to personalize driver's journeys by analyzing driving patterns.
The partnership was disclosed at the end of April by Here Technologies.
Here's Mobile SDK can also be found in apps for two-wheelers. Taiwan-based CROXERA smart dashboard has integrated Here's maps and navigation into its apps and dashboard on scooters.
According to IoT Now News & Reports, BMW's vehicles manufactured since 2020 and the new 7 Series are equipped with Here Real-Time Traffic, while around 750,000 vehicles manufactured between 2018-2019 could acquire the new feature via OTA updates in 70 countries.
According to Here, Real-Time Traffic provides real-time information on traffic congestion and potential road hazards and automatically re-routes to save time and stay safe. Drivers can plan trips ahead on My BMW app.
Here Technologies started building cloud-based predictive routing about 10 years ago and BMW is the first OE to deploy this feature in vehicles.
"Predictive Routing clearly demonstrates innovation in the navigation space to enhance the driving experience and tailor it to make it more personal. It provides drivers with relevant information about their journeys ahead, especially on routine routes for which drivers normally wouldn't need turn-by-turn navigation," said Gino Ferru, senior vice president and general manager, EMEAR at Here Technologies.
The system applies the lessons learned from analyzing mobility patterns to generate predictions for upcoming journeys, departure times, destinations and routes.
