The top-3 smartphone AP suppliers worldwide – MediaTek, Qualcomm, and Apple – will all experience a shipment decline from a year ago in 2023. MediaTek will remain the largest supplier, followed by Qualcomm. It is also noteworthy that Samsung Electronics' reorganization of its Exynos AP product line will lead to the Korean smartphone brand placing a large volume of AP orders with Qualcomm.
Meanwhile, MediaTek is expected to sustain a minor impact from Oppo kicking off the volume production of its in-house developed processors in 2023.
Large pile-ups of excess AP inventory are still being stored at smartphone brands, channel operators, and assemblers and will result in brands decelerating their AP orders in first-half 2023.
