Global top-5 notebook brands saw combined shipments rise 4% on month in November as some brands are preparing inventory to counter potential US tariffs on made-in-China notebooks from the Trump government.
Abstract

DIGITIMES Research's study of the global top five notebook brands (excluding Apple) and the top three notebook ODMs regarding their November 2024 shipments (excluding detachable models) shows that the overall market demand during the peak season was weak.

However, some brands lacking partners with manufacturing capacity outside China began stocking up end product inventory in anticipation of potential US tariffs on exported notebooks from China in the first quarter of 2025 under Trump. As a result, the top-5 brands' total shipments increased by 4% month-over-month but declined by 1% year-on-year in November 2024.

Among the top three notebook brands in November, only Lenovo saw shipment growth. This was due to its lack of manufacturing capacity outside China, prompting it to prepare inventory early, which boosted its shipment strengthen. Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Dell both experienced on-month declines, affected by weak demand in the consumer and enterprise sectors.
