With generative AI raising data centers' overall power consumption and risk of power outages, OCP is pushing to equip BBUs in high-end servers to ease the problems.
Abstract

The rapid development of generative AI technology has increased the energy consumption at data centers exponentially, not only generating demand for more power, but also putting servers at higher risk of power outages.

At present, systems at data centers have increasingly higher requirements for data integrity and stability, especially in key applications that require rapid responses, such as AI computing and financial transactions.

Any power outage or momentary power interruption may cause serious losses. The purpose of adding battery backup units (BBU) to servers is to avoid such risks.
