Silicon (Si) semiconductor with widespread use is close to reaching the physical limits of Moore's Law and is thus being replaced by wide bandgap semiconductors of third-generation semiconductors in a growing number of applications.
Abstract

Based on Digitimes Research's observations, the market of the third-generation semiconductors is poised for high growth.

To capture the rising opportunities, Taiwan-based manufacturers are investing into silicon carbide (SiC) crystal growth and in-house production equipment. More than that, the supply chain is progressing toward the virtual integrated component manufacturer (IDM) model, following in the footsteps of some global leading IT firms.

Eyeing the rising demand for SiC crystals and wafers, Taiwan-based manufacturers are endeavoring toward domestic SiC production in hopes of securing a stable supply.
