While Taiwan's IT industry dominates the global motherboard and ODM notebook businesses, its position as a global center for DRAM-module production is less sure. DRAM-module production is not especially labor intensive when compared to other assembly-type manufacturing processes, so there is an opportunity for regions with higher labor costs to compete effectively in the DRAM-module business, and they do just that.
