The prices of solar products in Greater China did not experience a lot of changes this week (December 19-23). According to Digitimes analyst Chihheng Liang, the solar industry has received a surge of rush orders for first-quarter 2012, with prices for some segments remaining still and prices of polysilicon and 156 multi solar wafers showing increases.
Liang indicated that shipments of polysilicon have been rising due to the rush orders and that polysilicon quoted below US$25/kg is hard to find in the spot market now.
The rush orders are mostly from India, the US and Italy, added Liang.
In addition, the rise of rush orders has prompted upstream solar wafer firms to consider increasing quotes for next month. However, due to the depreciation of euro, customers in Europe have been demanding lower prices such as US$0.45-0.47/watt for solar cells. This means solar cell firms are likely to be sandwiched between increasing material costs and decreasing product prices in January 2012, concluded Liang.
