Notebook brand vendors Acer and Asustek Computer, and notebook maker Wistron have announced their August revenue performances with both vendors seeing on-month growth, while Wistron suffered decline.
Wistron has announced revenues of NT$46.06 billion (US$1.55 billion) for August, down 5.68% on month and 10.97% on year, with the company's notebook shipments in the month reached 2.2 million units.
For the third quarter, Wistron expects its notebook shipments to stay flat or drop slightly on quarter.
In August, Wistron shipped 300,000 LCD TVs, up from 200,000 units in July; 900,000 smartphones, up from 600,000 units in July; one million desktops, down from 1.2 million units in July; 130,000 servers, down from 140,000 units in July and 700,000 LCD monitors, down from 750,000 units in July.
On the other hand, Acer saw its August revenues grew 17.87% on month to NT$26.71 billion, while Asustek enjoyed an on-month growth of 5.95% in its August revenues of NT$32.01 billion. However, the two vendors still suffered on-year revenue drops in the month.
Although notebook ODMs have all suffered on-month drop in August revenues, market watchers expect the ODMs' combined notebook shipments in September will enjoy close to 30% on-month growth thanks to Windows 8-based notebooks.
