Wilocity at the forefront of WiGig
Press release
Friday 7 June 2013

Wilocity, a leading developer of 60GHz multi-gigabit wireless chipsets, is the first to bring standards-based, multi-gigabit wireless networking to the market, which deliver more than 10 times greater Wi-Fi performance and capacity. WiGig is clearly emerging as the next major innovative technology in the wireless industry and Wilocity is the industry leader in providing 802.11ad solutions. The first commercial shipments of end user products integrating Wilocity chipsets began earlier this year and ABI Research predicts that 802.11ad IC shipments will exceed one billion units by 2017. WiGig is here today and a must have technology in the product portfolio for any major original equipment manufacturer (OEM). Wilocity is at the forefront of bringing consumer and commercial products to market with our technology partners and customers. Wilocity is partnered with Qualcomm-Atheros and Marvell to bring tri-band solutions to market and we have received numerous awards and industry recognition for our advances and innovation in the 802.11ad space.

In a world where device to device and cloud computing are becoming predominant usage models for mobile devices, a high performance wireless technology which can scale in a dense device environment is necessary. 802.11ad is a directional, multi-gigabit wireless technology which uniquely scales in multi-device environments without sacrificing performance and total capacity.

Wilocity solutions are capable of supporting a wide range of applications, from I/O to video to networking, at wired-equivalent speeds, all while maintaining interoperability. Utilizing Wilocity's WiGig/802.11ad solutions, users will be able to change the way they interact with their computing devices, as tasks that used to take minutes or hours can now be done in seconds or minutes. The company's unique tri-band solution enables users to connect at whatever band offers the best available performance, delivering multi-gigabit data rates at 60GHz, while maintaining compatibility with hundreds of existing Wi-Fi products in the 2.4GHz or 5GHz bands. Tri-band Wi-Fi also allows consumers to connect to 60GHz enabled devices, docks, displays and storage at multi-gigabit speeds, while maintaining enterprise-wide or whole home coverage with 2.4/5GHz Wi-Fi. Also, due to the directional nature of 802.11ad which results in little to no co-channel interference, 802.11ad easily scales in total network capacity linearly as the number of devices increase; it is an excellent technology for dense user deployments such as hot spots and office environments.

Wilocity's current product offering is targeted at notebooks, ultrabooks, convertibles and tablets as well as peripheral devices such as docking stations, storage, displays and access points. The Wilocity chipset allows users to connect at speeds of up to 5Gbps and is compliant to both the IEEE802.11ad and the WiGig specifications. Wilocity has reference designs for PC modules available in half minicard (HMC) and M.2 (aka NGFF) form factors as well as a 60GHz radio module with antenna array. The PC modules are tri-band 2.4/5/60GHz capable and the first in the industry to integrate 802.11ad, BT4.0 and either 2x2 dual-band 802.11n or 2x2 802.11ac in the same form factor. Reference designs for accessories such as docking, access point and storage exist as well for evaluation.
