Digitimes Research: China OGS touch panel makers hiking GFF capacity

Jen-Chieh Yang, DIGITIMES Research, Taipei

Viewing that China-based smartphone vendors have begun to adopt more GFF (a glass sheet and two layers of ITO film) touch panels in high-end products than OGS (one glass solution) solutions, China-based OGS touch panels makers including Biel Crystal Manufactory and Truly Optoelectronics have increased GFF touch panel production capacities, according to Digitimes Research.

Additionally, the makers are introducing new materials such as nanowire silver and grapheme to enhance price competitiveness in 2015 because Japan Display and LG Display have lowered quotes for 5-inch HD in-cell touch panels to below US$20. The move will help the makers provide solutions that are equipped with sensitive features competitive to OGS as well as give them a diversified edge in the market.

Meanwhile, only a handful of China makers are continuing to provide PG (plastic-glass) cover solutions as applications for 7-inch devices are now selling below US$2 in the market. To maintain profitable, China makers have switched their focus to other applications such as vehicle and even TFT LCD modules.

Digitimes Research also said the China makers are increasing development of 20-inch and above size products for use in AIO PC and public displays.
