Global top-5 brands, not including Apple, saw their combined notebook shipments slip over 20% on month in July because of the high comparison base in June and a deceleration in demand from the education procurement sector in Europe and North America, according to DIGITIMES Research's figures from July's notebook monthly update report.

Lenovo returned as the top brand worldwide in July, taking over the original leader Hewlett-Packard (HP), due to its keen promotion campaigns and the demand recovery in Europe, one of the Chinese brand's key markets.

HP, witnessing its education procurement and consumer notebook shipments hitting the peak of 2023 so far in June, experienced a major shipment correction in July. Dell performed the best among the top-3 vendors in July thanks to the order resumption from the enterprise sector.

Combined shipments of the global top-3 ODMs plunged 17% from a month ago in July with Compal Electronics having the smallest sequential shipment decline, benefiting from Dell's increased orders, the report's figures show.
