Lite-On holds opening ceremony for the Fritz Walter World Cup Football Stadium 1.35 MWp PV solar power plant project in Kaiserslautern, Germany

Press release, September 16; Yvonne Yu, DIGITIMES Asia 0

Lite-On Green Technologies (LOGT), a PV solar EPC company based in Taiwan with global operations, and a subsidiary of Lite-On Technology, held an opening ceremony today for its self-owned 1.35 MWp roof-top solar power plant at Fritz Walter World Cup Football Stadium in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Local politicians gave a speech at the ceremony in thanks for the solar power for the city of Kaiserslautern and congratulate the new phase of the stadium. "Besides the glories of being named after Fritz Walter, the German football hero, and the host stadium of 2006 World Cup football games, Kaiserslautern Football Stadium is now the world's leading football stadium PV solar power plant," says Peter Kisfer, Assistant Mayor of Kaiserslautern.

The Fritz Walter Football Stadium was one of the four stadiums to host the 2006 World Cup Football games. In this project, Lite-On not only demonstrates its high quality PV modules, the extensive experience of roof-top PV installation and patented PV module mounting construction technology, but also directly invests in this PV solar energy generation project. The Fritz Walter World Cup Stadium is Lite-On's first self-owned PV solar power plant in the world, which is a great milestone for Lite-On's development in the global solar market.

The overall size of the solar installation in the Fritz Walter World Cup Stadium project is 1.35MWp and was completed in three phases. The installation and grid connection of phase 1 and 2 were completed before the end of 2009. The third and last phase was completed in July, 2010. It will be able to generate 1,156 kWh of electricity per year and can bring to an equivalent reduction of 856 tons of carbon dioxide, a major greenhouse gas, and 6.9 tons of sulfur dioxide, as well as 5.1 tons of NOx. In addition, the amount of electricity generated is equivalent to the reduction of 408 tons of coal consumption per year from a conventional coal burning power plant.

Besides Germany, LOGT has also started a few Mega-watt sized level PV solar installations and self-owned projects in Italy. These projects are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2010. Outside Europe, LOGT has completed residential and industrial roof-top projects as well as innovative Thin Film Solar Integrated Greenhouse Power Plants in several countries in Asia. "LOGT is determined to provide its expertise in PV solar power plant EPC service and project development worldwide to participate in the rapidly growing solar energy industry in the world," says David Lin, chairman of LOGT.
