Apple has announced the iPhone 5s featuring a new A7 chip, making the smartphone one of the early models to have 64-bit desktop-class architecture. Apple has also introduced the iPhone 5c, featuring a new design in five colors - blue, green, pink, yellow and white.
The iPhone 5s have several new features including an 8-megapixel iSight camera with True Tone flash and Touch ID, a technology to unlock users' phone with the touch of a finger.
The iPhone 5s comes with iOS 7, engineered for 64-bit technology and featuring a number of new features, including Control Center, Notification Center, improved Multitasking, AirDrop, enhanced Photos, Safari, Siri and iTunes Radio, according to Apple.
The new A7 chip in the iPhone 5s brings 64-bit desktop-class architecture to the iPhone for the first time. Apple said it also engineered iOS 7 and all the built-in apps to maximize the performance of the A7 chip.
Every iPhone 5s includes the new M7 motion coprocessor that gathers data from the accelerometer, gyroscope and compass to offload work from the A7 for improved power efficiency. Developers can also access new CoreMotion APIs that take advantage of the M7. The M7 motion coprocessor continuously measures the motion data, even when the device is asleep, and saves battery life for pedometer or other fitness apps that use the accelerometer all day, Apple said.
Built into the home button, the Touch ID uses a laser cut sapphire crystal, together with the capacitive touch sensor, to take a high-resolution image of user's fingerprint and analyze it to provide accurate readings from any angle.
The all-new 8-megapixel iSight camera features a larger f/2.2 aperture and a new, larger sensor with 1.5μ pixels for better sensitivity and low-light performance, resulting in better pictures. The iPhone 5s also introduces the True Tone flash that variably adjusts color and intensity for over 1,000 combinations. The iPhone 5s also includes a new Burst Mode, Slo-Mo video with 120 fps, a new FaceTime HD camera for better low-light performance and audio-only FaceTime calls with the iOS 7.
The iPhone 5s features a 4-inch Retina display and glass inlays, while Apple has designed leather cases in six colors-beige, black, blue, brown, yellow and RED, specifically for the iPhone.
The iPhone 5s supports up to 13 LTE wireless bands, includes dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi support for up to 150 Mbps and Bluetooth 4.0. The iPhone 5s delivers a 10 hours of talk time on 3G networks, up to 10 hours of web browsing on Wi-Fi and LTE networks and up to eight hours on 3G networks, and up to 10 hours of video playback and up to 40 hours of audio playback, according to Apple.
The iPhone 5s comes in gold, silver or gray, and will be available in the US for a suggested retail price of US$199 for the 16GB model and US$299 for the 32GB model and US$399 for the 64GB model.
The iPhone 5s will be available in the US, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK on September 20. A new iPhone 4S 8GB model will also be available for free.
As for the iPhone 5c, the smartphone features a 4-inch Retina display, Apple's A6 chip, and the 8-megapixel iSight camera.
The iPhone 5c features a new design crafted from a single, hard-coated polycarbonate body with a steel reinforced frame for a solid, sturdy feel and also features the same wireless connection supports as the iPhone 5s, Apple said.
The iPhone 5c will be available in the US for a suggested retail price of US$99 for the 16GB model and US$199 for the 32GB model. The iPhone 5c cases will be available for a suggested retail price of US$29 (US). iPhone 5c will be available in the US, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK on September 20, and customers can pre-order their iPhone 5c beginning September 13.
