Advantech (TWSE: 2395.TW),a leading designer and manufacturer of multicore media processing platforms and Utelisys, a provider of innovative real-time transcoding solutions will be demonstrating the performance and channel density gains which can be achieved by using Advantech's PCIe cards powered by multicore Digital Signal Processors (DSP) from Texas Instruments Inc (TI).
As a result of close collaboration between the two companies, Utelisys will be showcasing their new range of transcoders, enabling integrators and telecom operators to move distribution, transcoding and content delivery from the core to the edge of the network. The Utelisys OTT solution incorporates variable bit rate with auto-detection technology. The end device signals the OTT head end to optimize the bit rate, ensuring the best possible quality at all times under any network condition. Utelisys solutions target data center and telecom cloud operators with encoding, decoding, transcoding and transrating solutions, supporting a wide range of protocols and containers for H.264 and HEVC codecs, for turn-key end-user delivery systems. The Utelisys full circle solutions can deliver any content in MPEG2, H.264 or HEVC to any end device by adapting at different bit rates using HTTP live streaming (HLS) as well as other protocols. Customer content is protected using studio approved digital rights management (DRM) such as the Verimatrix VCAS, all built into a single appliance.

The Utelisys edge distribution system runs on Advantech's DSPC-8681 or DSPC-8682 PCIe cards which integrate four or eight TI TMS320C6678 multi-core DSPs and a high-speed PLXR ExpressLane PEX8624 PCIe switch, to achieve the highest possible performance levels in a half-length PCIe or full-length form factor. The DSPs provide fixed- and floating-point capabilities and include packet accelerator support for various transport plane protocols as well as a security accelerator engine which supports a wide range of security and encryption standards including DES. The 32 DSP cores on the DSPC-8681 and the 64 DSP cores on the DSPC-8682 offer the high-performance processing capabilities needed for a broad range of media processing applications providing full programmability in a cost- and power optimized package.
