Japan-based industrial control and automation equipment maker Omron will invest in Taiwan-based collaborative robot maker Techman Robot, according to Techman.
Omron will subscribe to 10 million new shares to be issued by Techman for private placement to acquire a 10% stake in the latter.
Since 2018, Techman has strategically partnered with Omron to develop TM series cobots for sale in the international market via respective marketing channels, Techman chairman Ho Shi-chi said. Techman has become the world's second-largest vendor of cobots next only to Denmark-based Universal Robots, Ho noted.
TM cobots can be matched with Omron-developed industrial automatic control systems to provide smart manufacturing solutions. Viewing that global demand for industrial automation has been significantly growing due to impact of the coronavirus pandemic on production, Omron is enhancing the partnership with Techman via the investment.
