ShunSin Technology, a subsidiary of Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) that specializes in system-in-package (SiP) modules, has announced plans to open a subsidiary in Vietnam for US$20 million.

The new subsidiary, ShunSin Technology (Vietnam), is seen as a long-term equity investment by the company, ShunSin said in a filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE).

ShunSin has two plants in Vietnam, one in Hanoi and one in Tinh Bac Giang. Both locations were built primarily to fulfill orders from US customers, former company chairman Hsu Wen-yi was quoted as saying in previous reports. Chiang Shang-yi, who is currently the semiconductor strategy officer for Foxconn Technology (Hon Hai Precision Industry), has assumed the position of ShunSin chairman.

ShunSin has also stepped up its deployment in the co-packaged optics (CPO) field, said the company at a recent investors conference call. The company will produce its CPO products mainly at its plants in Vietnam.

ShunSin has been looking into SiP technology for optical transceivers for years and has already generated samples of co-packaged optics (CPO), which might see widespread deployment by AI server supply chains by 2025, a recent report quoted company president Hsu Wen-yi as saying.
