Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET), one of the three largest mobile telecom carriers in Taiwan, expects its number of mobile communication subscribers to increase to seven million, and mobile Internet-access subscribers to two million at the end of 2012, according to company executive vice president of marketing Benjamin Ho.

FET expects to procure 1.5 million handsets for contract-bundled sale in 2012, 0.9-1.0 million of which will be smartphones, Ho indicated. As contract-bundled sales of tablets have been better than originally expected, FET has upward adjusted target sales of tablets in 2012 to 160,000-170,000 units, Ho said.

S Mart, FET's online store for mobile applications, has more than 4,000 applications and has recorded a cumulative total of 3.5 million downloads to date, Ho indicated.
