Handset vendor Nokia is reportedly putting in steady orders to its panel providers such as Innolux Corporation, which is expected to help Innolux bump up its revenues in 2013, according to Taiwan-based supply chain sources.
The sources said Innolux has obtained 30-35% of orders for panels used in Nokia handsets, including entry-level, midrange and high-end handsets, becoming Nokia's largest handset panel supplier.
Nokia has mostly aimed at selling entry-level and midrange handsets in emerging markets during recent years such as China, India and countries throughout Africa. This has created demand for small- to medium-size panels, which will be a major factor in driving Innolux's performance throughout 2013, said the sources.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics has surpassed Nokia as the most commonly used smartphone brand in China since the third quarter of 2012, according to a consumer research report on smartphone use in China conducted by Avanti.
