Taiwan-based TFT LCD panel makers' small- to medium-size panel shipments are expected to reach 384 million units in the second quarter of 2013, up 9.9% on quarter and up 10.6% on year, largely due to demand for the May 1 holiday period in China, Digitimes Research estimates.
The makers' vehicle display shipments are expected to see the largest on-quarter increase at 12.3% followed by handset panel shipments at 11.1%. Shipments for panels used in portable DVD players and digital photo frames, however, are expected to decline 1% and 0.8% during the quarter, respectively.
Most of the makers will see small- to medium-size panel shipments increase more than 10% sequentially in the second quarter, but Innolux Corporation and Wintek will only see growth at 8.7% and 9% respectively.
Innolux will see below-average growth because it is raising the shipment proportion of tablet panels but lowering that of handset applications. For Wintek, it has been switchign more capacity to producing touch panels.
Digitimes Research expects HannStar Display to remain the largest small- to medium-size panel provider in Taiwan in terms of shipments during the quarter.
