While Google has revealed more details of technology and cooperation partners for its IoT operating system Brillo, a lack of system hardware partners and specific direction for product applications may impede the promotion of the OS, according to Digitimes Research.
The Brillo is definitely to support x86-, ARM- and MIPS-based processors with a minimum 32MB memory capacity and 128MB storage capacity and also support Wi-Fi, Bluetooth as well as Weave.
Google has promised to update the Brillo online and also periodically, to carry out a minor update in every six weeks and a major update in every six months. Meanwhile, the Brillo will record the execution information of the OS under the permission of terminal-end users.
In comparison, Apple and five of its cooperation partners have rolled out recently supporting products for its HomeKit OS, which was unveiled in June 2014. Google has lagged behind Apple about one year and thus has to step up its efforts to advance its Brillo OS so that it can compete with Apple in the emerging household IoT market, Digitimes Research commented.
