Taiwan to develop small space rockets

Bryan Chuang, Taipei; Adam Hwang, DIGITIMES Asia 0

The Taiwan government has drafted Space Development Act to promote the use of locally-produced small rockets to test locally-developed aerospace devices in space, according to science and technology minister WuTsung-Tsong.

The act is intended to capitalize on Taiwan's R&D and manufacturing capability in semiconductor, ICT and precision machinery to develop an aerospace industry.

Unlike NASA or SpaceX, Taiwan will not develop large rockets with payloads of many satellites, but instead will develop small rockets for launching aerospace devices into space for testing, Wu indicated.

Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) has chosen a rocket-launching site in southern Taiwan.
