Kunshan Kersen Science Technology Co., Ltd., a crucial supplier of MacBook bearings, has reportedly suspended shipments due to quality control issues. In response, Apple has redistributed orders to alternative suppliers, including US-based Amphenol and Taiwanese firms Shin Zu Shing and Jarllytec. While none of the involved parties have issued official statements, industry experts anticipate that this order shift will impact the supply chain through the end of the year.

The MacBook Air in question is not a new model, yet production defects have emerged. Supply chain insiders explain that it's common for brand manufacturers to replace certain materials during production, which can occasionally lead to quality issues.

Even after orders are transferred to new suppliers, the effects of these defects may persist until the product reaches its end-of-life (EOL) stage. Consequently, despite the change in suppliers, the material alterations could continue to affect the product until it is no longer in production or supported.

Kersen has expanded its role in Apple's supply chain, progressing from mechanical components to bearings, while playing a crucial role in supporting local suppliers. However, the recent quality issues have also drawn attention to Apple's broader strategy to diversify its supply chain and reduce reliance on Chinese suppliers, a shift often discussed within the context of the "red supply chain."

Despite the current quality control challenges, industry insiders believe Kersen may still have future opportunities to secure orders, as Apple continues to diversify its production network to mitigate risks and ensure product quality across its supply chain.
