The global top-5 notebook brands, not including Apple, saw their combined shipments rise over 30% on month in May, while the top-3 ODMs together also achieved a similar shipment growth thanks to a recovery in North America's and Europe's education sectors and vendors' keen price cuts on older-generation consumer models for clearing up inventory, according to DIGITIMES Research's latest monthly notebook shipment update report.

Hewlett-Packard (HP) regained its title as the largest brand in May, surpassing Lenovo in shipments, contributed mainly by increased education procurement orders from North America and Eastern Europe. Lenovo also enjoyed robust shipment growth in May with inventory replenishment demand from channels in Europe and China, the report's figures show.

Dell had underperformed the top-2 brands during May as the enterprise sector, Dell's key market, still lacked a shipment growth driver.

The top-3 ODMs' combined notebook shipments were up 33% on month in May. Quanta Computer's shipments picked up dramatically from a month ago in May because of rising education procurement orders for Chromebooks.
