It isn't just the Quad cores that are delayed - try getting the E8500 or even the E8400. I think they are either having problems with their new 45nm manufacturing process or something else is going on.

Intel... LOL, one more time making customers wait.

I think the main cause of the delay would be a possible cannibalization of 65nm models.

Back in the old days - when AMD only had the K6 CPUs. Intel Sold the 400MHz PII for $900... no competition means no advanced speeds or lower prices.

I wanted to purchase a Q9450, but this delay will give me a good argument to convince my dad to buy the QX9650 for me!

I take this with a lot of skepticism, the 45nm parts are the same core on a new fabrication system implying more processors per package and thus lower manufacturing costs. If there are no problems with the 45nm core why is it being delayed?

It seems to be much ado about nothing. Intel is making a sound financial decision to protect its profits in the best way, given present market conditions.
Intel is doing the right thing for its own economic survival.

I too was waiting for the 9450 and the Nvidia 9 series (so 8800 prices would go down :D). Go AMD. I want another price war!

The dog comment is absurd. Provided a company can't be held to account for some illegal act/s to form/maintain a monopoly, every cold-hearted company LUSTS for a monopoly. Note Rockefeller's oil transportation monopoly and Gates' OS fortunes.

AMD isn't even bankrupt yet and we're already seeing a decline in Intel's competitiveness. Obviously we're bound for slower development and poorer price/performance in PCs, games, etc if AMD dies. Intel is making the classic arrogant in power mistake.

Intel aren't helping AMD, they are keeping their own prices inflated by not releasing higher spec technology. AMD are now so far behind the market Intel don't need to release their latest chips yet. It doesn't look good for them.

AMD is Intel's dog, you don't want to beat your dog to death when he challenges your leadership, just make sure he knows who's boss because after all he does provide some help by not making your corporation a huge monopoly.

So they will not release a better product for the public without competition leaving us to buy older products for similar monies we could have a newer possible better product. Hmmm what will happen without competition?

I guess the delay of the Intel 45nm quad-core has nothing to do with the erratum that they have found in their cache either. Poor AMD, now they also have to shoulder Intel's misstep in addition to their own.

A good decision.
The usual AMD customer has not a dollar too much to spend on hardware. By releasing the 45nm line Intel would give its 65nm products a dropdown in price that would make them sell better than ever. The 45nm won't sell that well.
