ASMedia Technology, a fabless chipmaker specializing in high-speed transmission chips, is expected to post strong sales for 2022 thanks to sufficient capacity support from TSMC, according to industry sources.

Support from TSMC will allow ASMedia to satisfy robust demand for PCIe and USB 3.1 Gen 2 device controller ICs, said the sources.

ASMedia with its PCI Express-to-USB 3.1 Gen 2 single-chip controllers has reportedly cut into the supply chain for Apple's new iMac series, while partnering with Intel in the development of Thunderbolt-to-PCIe chip solutions. The new orders will start generating revenue in 2022, the sources indicated.

ASMedia also remains a major supplier of AMD chipsets, said the sources, adding that the contract supplier is among the beneficiaries of AMD gaining ground in the China market.

ASMedia continues to enhance its own-brand offering in China, meanwhile. Sales of ASMedia own-brand products are expected to account for 20% of company revenue at the end of 2021, the sources said.

In addition, ASMedia has already stuck a deal with TSMC for capacity next year, the sources noted. The fabless chipmaker also raised prices for part of its offerings to reflect rising manufacturing costs in the second quarter of 2021.

ASMedia has disclosed consolidated revenue of NT$3.05 billion (US$109.2 million) for the first half of 2021, up 5.4% on year.
