As Tesla aims to produce 1.5 million electric vehicles in 2022, hiking 60% on year, its demand for highly customized Si-based IGBT modules and SiC-based power modules supplied by international IDMs (integrated device manufacturers) will greatly increase and, in turn, Taiwan-based lead frame makers Shuen Der Industry (SDI) and Jih Lin Technology will benefit because they are supply chain makers for these IDMs, according to industry sources.

Besides, semiconductor testing and verification laboratory Integrated Service Technology (iST) will be also a beneficiary thanks to the increased demand from Tesla, the sources said.

SDI and Jih Lin have given priority to the scheduling of production for lead frames used in such Si-based IGBT modules and SiC-based power modules, the sources noted. The two companies may see the revenue proportions for lead frames used in automotive semiconductors exceed 40-50% in the future, the sources indicated.

Tesla has adopted SoW (system-on-wafer) technology at TSMC's WLSI (wafer-level-system-integration) platform for Dojo D1, its in-house-developed high-performance computing IC used in AI training, and this may also benefit SDI, Jih Lin and iST, the sources said.
