Qualcomm has made headway in the 5G mmWave solution market, securing related orders from many telecom operators and smartphone vendors in North America, Europe, Japan, Korea, India and Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand.

Chinese handset vendors, including Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, ZTE, TCL and Honor, have also climbed on the 5G mmWave bandwagon initiated by Qualcomm, apart from their previous focus on sub-6GHz 5G models, according to the chip vendor.

Bharti Airtel, the second-largest telecom operator in India, will also adopt Qualcomm's mmWave solutions, said Qualcomm.

The mmWave technology has become an essential element within the 5G ecosystem, and it will provide leverage to eliminate the bandwidth gap between urban and rural areas in Indian, Airtel COT Randeep Sekhon was quoted by Qualcomm as saying in a press statement.

Thailand-based True Corporation has launched a 26GHz 5G commercial network in the country, which it claimed as the first of its kind in Southeast Asia, according to company co-president Manat Manavutiveth. The executive believes the 5G network will enable Thailand to spearhead in 5G technology and related industrial IoT applications in the region.

Other renowned brands in Asia, including Samsung Electronics, Softbank, Kyocera, KDDI, and Rakuten Mobile, are also included in Qualcomm's clients list.

In Taiwan, Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) has set up a 5G mmWave-based smart manufacturing factory in southern Taiwan in cooperation with Qualcomm and ASE Technology Holding.
