Despite weak growth in India's PC and tablet markets over the past few years due to inventory challenges, Canalys believes the demands are expected to grow in the following two years.

Canalys forecasts robust growth of 11% in 2024 and 15% in 2025 for India's PC and tablet market, driven by strong demand across all user segments.

By product, Canalys expects India's desktop and notebook market to grow by 8% year-on-year in 2024, and an 18% growth in 2025. The tablet market in India is expected to grow by 20% in 2024 and 8% in 2025.

Canalys analyst Ashweej Aithal highlights that the commercial sector, including enterprises, SMBs, and the public sector, will lead growth in India's PC market, spurred by the end of Windows 10 support and the availability of AI-capable PCs, with significant tenders in education boosting the tablet market, offsetting weaknesses in other segments like consumer, commercial, and government.

Despite weak growth in the consumer PC market in 2024, Canalys expects strong growth in the market in 2025 thanks to refreshing demands as devices bought during the pandemic require upgrades and upcoming AI capabilities.

Meanwhile, the Canalys report implies continued reliance on imported components, including semiconductors. Aithal highlighted that the reliance on foreign components has prompted the government to introduce initiatives supporting the domestic semiconductor industry. He added that achieving self-sufficiency will require significant investment in research, capacity building, and supporting industries.
