Global notebook shipments to suffer another 5% decline in 1Q24 after an almost 6% sequential drop in 4Q23.
Abstract

Global notebook shipments, not including detachable models, went down 5.8% sequentially in the fourth quarter of 2023 due to brand vendors' promotions for clearing inventory almost reaching an end; new CPU platform not yet ready; and weak end demand for notebooks pulling brand vendors back from strengthening their orders for the quarter despite the quarter being the traditional strong season.

With a low comparison base in the fourth quarter of 2023 and some brand vendors starting to push new notebook models, shipments in the first quarter of 2024 are expected to achieve a stronger than the usual first-quarter performance despite the quarter's slow seasonality.

Among the top notebook brands worldwide, Lenovo will stay at the lead in the first quarter of 2024 thanks to the end demand resumption in China, further widening its shipment gap with the number-2 Hewlett-Packard (HP), who will act even more conservatively in the first quarter of 2024 as its shipments did not benefit much from the year-end holidays as usual in the fourth quarter of 2023.
