The government-operated Southern Taiwan Science Park (STSP) has capitalized on the global AI surge and the thriving semiconductor sector, generating a record revenue of NT$1.31 trillion (approx. US$40.63 billion) from January to August 2024, marking a more than 40% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
According to the STSP Bureau, the semiconductor sector has benefited from rising demand for high-performance computing (HPC) and AI device applications, with advanced process manufacturing accounting for a considerable portion of revenue. From January to August, semiconductor revenue totaled NT$1.09 trillion, up 44.6% from the same period in 2023.
The optoelectronics industry has experienced robust sales of large-size TV panels, driven by international sporting events scheduled for 2024. This sector achieved a revenue of NT$121.14 billion from January to August, up 6.1% compared to the same period last year.
The computer and peripherals sector saw significant growth driven by a surge in AI server shipments, reaching NT$28.06 billion during the same period, representing a remarkable 383.4% rise compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, the communications industry capitalized on the booming development of low Earth orbit satellites and the gradual recovery of the mobile phone market, generating NT$18.94 billion in revenue, a 1.6% increase year over year.
The STSP Bureau anticipates that the ongoing AI boom will continue to drive the growth of the semiconductor, computer, and peripherals industries, potentially leading to another record-breaking annual revenue in 2024.
In 2023, STSP's revenue increased by 6.9% compared to the previous year, reaching NT$1.59 trillion. This marked a record high and the third consecutive year in which it surpassed NT$1 trillion.
