The production value of South Korea's memory chip industry soared 31% from a year earlier to almost KRW13 trillion (US$11.9 billion) in the first quarter of 2015, according Digitimes Research.
The total production value consisted of KRW9.2 trillion for DRAM and KRW3.79 trillion for NAND flash, representing on-year growth of 33% and 26.4%, respectively, said Digitimes Research.
With Samsung Electronics obtaining orders for SSD devices from Apple, and SK Hynix supplying NAND chips for the 128GB models of the iPhone 6, South Korea's NAND industry bit shipments saw larger growth than its DRAM industry bit shipments in the first quarter of 2015, Digitimes Research indicated.
The NAND flash sector accounted for 29.2% of the overall production value of South Korea's memory chip industry in the first quarter of 2015, up from 27.7% in the prior quarter, Digitimes Research indicated.
For the second quarter of 2015, the production value of South Korea's memory chip industry is forecast to increase 5-7% sequentially and about 30% from a year earlier, according to Digitimes Research.
