Gianfranco Lanci, COO and president for Lenovo, will retire from the PC vendor in September 2021. The company also disclosed organization and personnel changes that will become effective on April 1.

Lenovo CEO Yuanqing Yang pointed out that the company has full control of its orders for the first quarter of 2021 and its robust shipment growth in the quarter will not be affected by component shortages.

Lenovo will have a new business group, Solution and Service Group, starting April 1, with all Lenovo's solutions and services to be transferred to the group for it to handle.

In addition to a new business group, Lenovo's other two existing major business groups will also have new heads with the Intelligent Devices Group (IDG) to be led by Luca Rossi, SVP of Lenovo Group and president EMEA and Latin America; and the Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG) by Kirk Shaugen, executive VP of Lenovo and president of Data Center Group.

Lenovo achieved a share of 25.3% in the global PC market in its fiscal third-quarter 2020 ended on December 31, 2020 and saw revenues from PCs and IDG arrive at US$14 billion, up 26.35% on year during the time. Lenovo's shipments went up 60% on year in North America, while in EMEA, it became the largest brand in terms of sales and enjoyed an on-year shipment increase of 30% in China in the period.

With the stay-at-home economy to remain robust amid the coronavirus pandemic, Yang expects demand for notebooks and tablets will extend to 2021 and will be driven partly by replacement need.

Digitimes Research's latest figures from the Notebook Tracker also show Lenovo's notebook shipments reached 41 million units in 2020 and will rise 12.3% on year to 46 million in 2021. Lenovo is anticipated to ship eight million Chromebooks in 2021.
